Application Packaging

How can I ensure that any application I install will not break any other application? Can I retire my applications without rebuilding my desktop? How do I get my applications to co-exist?

Camwood has been an acknowledged packaging specialist from the mid-1990s and provides partial or full component management for the application estate. Couple this with Camwood's innovation, Multi Purpose Packaging, Camwood has provided significant business benefits to our clients. Using software and services, Camwood provides a full packaging service encompassing all stages from Mobilisation, Standards, Discovery and Quality Assurance.

Camwood's experience has shown that although packaging applications into an MSI format significantly lowers the Total Cost of Ownership, resolving conflicts between the resulting MSIs is imperative. Only by resolving such interoperability conflicts is it possible to ensure each application will install and uninstall without negatively impacting business continuity.

Camwood offers the option for application packages to be component managed and therefore, free of interoperability conflicts. Component management is an approach to creating application packages that do not conflict with the underlying operating system or other applications. Creating a component managed application portfolio entails creating MSIs that are conflict checked to the necessary component level to ensure a truly conflict free, managed application portfolio.

Camwood offers three different cost models to align with your business objectives. The decision on which to adopt should be based on both environment and key business factors. The three options are:

  • Applications will not be Component Managed.
  • Applications will be Component Managed against a core set of applications.
  • Applications will be Component Managed against all applications.

The benefits include improved desktop stability, applications reliability and user experience, as well as reduced support and deployment costs. Applications can be deployed with confidence knowing they will not negatively impact the current application environment.
