Application Compatibility Management
Overview
Changes to your organisation's desktop operating system, whether it be a minor change like a service pack update or as major as a migration to a new version, requires a significant amount of planning. The level of application compatibility and remediation for these changes is often underestimated due to a lack of pertinent accurate information.
Assessing your entire portfolio before making a change is key to determining the effort required to ensure the applications will operate correctly. Normally, gathering this level of information about the application portfolio would take months of manual testing.
Camwood uses AppDNA's AppTitude (click here to find out more) software as a framework that reads both the installation routine, in MSI or NON-MSI format, and key behavioural information from the applications binary files to determine its compatibility for ® Windows ® XP, XP Service Pack 2 & Microsoft ® Windows ® Vista™. Using the AppTitude Compatibility Manager your organisation will be able to gather this information in a matter of days.
Providing information as a Red, Amber and Green (RAG) based report with suggested solutions at the beginning of your system change facilitates the development of a remediation plan well ahead of traditional timescales.
Further to assessing compatibility AppTitude is also able to assess the applications suitability for software virtualisation, report on portfolio co-existence issues and assess an application's complexity.

- Flexible adoption model:
There are two options available with AppTitude solution. The first is the generation of a one-off report created by Camwood covering any combination of the criteria above. This option is facilitated by the supply of the MSI portfolio to Camwood for assessment.
The second option is to offer the AppTitude product with any of the report criteria selected above, supplied as a managed service to enable the assessment of applications by the licensee.
Business Briefing
A business briefing session will be held with the business decision makers. In this session current business objectives are examined in order to deliver a clear picture of application compatibility and remediation that will enable you to reach your business goals.
This process will provide your organisation with the following:
- A blueprint for the business demonstrating medium-term and strategic recommendations for deriving the maximum benefit from your IT investment.
- Assurance that IT is a cost-effective business service.
The briefing will also be used to deliver in-depth technical information on application packaging and to determine how best to integrate the new technology into your existing environment. The session will also be used to map the business objectives to technology solutions and describe roles and communication flows. The briefing will include presentations, product demonstrations and whiteboard sessions covering the following topics:
